The GMC Hummer EV SUV is a two-row midsize SUV that’s mechanically identical to the GMC Hummer EV Pickup truck, which launched two years earlier for the 2022 model year. The wheelbase is 22.6 centimeters shorter than the Pickup, and there’s an enclosed cargo area behind the second row of seats instead of an open bed. An external spare tire is also included and mounted on the tailgate, which the Pickup does not offer. The SUV mimics the style and the physical size of the gas-powered H2 from the 2000s. A full-width light bar doubles as the vehicle's grille, huge tires are pushed out to the far corners, and it has an approach angle of almost 50 degrees — better than any other vehicle on sale.
GMC Hummer EV SUV Buying Guide: Cost, Reliability, and the Best Years to Buy
As an extreme electric 4x4, the Hummer EV SUV competes only with the Rivian R1S for price, on-road performance, and off-road capability. It features up to 1,160 horsepower, DC fast charging on an 800-volt architecture, four-wheel steering, an air suspension system with ground clearance of up to 40.6 centimetres in Extract Mode, and removable transparent Sky Panels that effectively turn the cabin into a convertible. The Hummer EV Pickup is identical in specification, and we cover that in a separate buying guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which GMC Hummer EV SUV years are the best?
All model years are identical except for 2026, which has slight modifications to the powertrain for faster acceleration, although that will likely be unnoticeable for anyone shopping for an older Hummer EV 3X.
Which GMC Hummer EV SUV years are the worst?
At this point, no model years are the worst.
Is a used GMC Hummer EV SUV a good deal?
For extreme off-road performance and on-road presence in a battery-electric SUV model, there are no direct competitors to the Hummer EV SUV aside from the Rivian R1S. As a luxury SUV, it’s not a good deal given the relatively low-quality interior, but the resale value is holding up.

GMC Hummer EV SUV First Generation (2024-Present)
Compared to the Hummer EV Pickup, the Hummer EV SUV is about 450 kilograms (1,000 pounds) lighter, primarily due to the shorter wheelbase. Still, along with the Hummer EV Pickup, the GMC Sierra EV, and the Chevrolet Silverado EV, the Hummer EV SUV has the automotive industry's largest battery, which weighs as much as a compact car. Its estimated fuel economy is anywhere from 4.4 to 5.0 litres-equivalent per 100 kilometres depending on the model year and the trim, which is very low for an EV but acceptable for such an overkill machine.
For 2026, the base Hummer EV 2X trim comes with two electric motors that can instantly adjust the torque split front to rear, a 170-kWh battery, 570 horsepower, air suspension, and a very short final drive ratio, generating up to 7,400 lb-ft of torque at the axles. The estimated electric range is 488 kilometres of range (or 449 km with mud terrain tires), with charging capability of up to 300 kW. The Extreme Off-Road Package adds those 18-inch mud terrain tires as well as front and rear locking differentials, underbody cameras, and a launch control called Watts to Freedom which increases output to 635 horsepower.
The 3X trim adds a third motor for up to 830 hp and 505 kilometres of range (or 480 km with mud terrain tires). For 2026, GMC modified the powertrain software and various bits of hardware to improve acceleration.
The modular sky panels from the Infinity Roof can be stowed in the front trunk, which has just over 310 litres of storage. Four-wheel steering with the Hummer’s trademark driver assistance feature, CrabWalk (which enables sideways movement), and 22-inch wheels on Goodyear Wrangler all-terrain tires are standard. A new King Crab mode allows the rear wheels to turn up to 10 degrees opposite the front wheels to aid low-speed maneuverability, which is a greater angle than previously allowed.
A 13.4-inch touchscreen is standard with Google Maps, Assistant, and Play store. Unlike most GM electric vehicles running this infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are supported. Three years of Super Cruise driver assistance technology are standard, which allow for hands-free driving with an OnStar subscription. A Bose 14-speaker stereo, heated front and rear seats, heated steering wheel, three-zone climate, 360-degree cameras, wireless phone charging, cooled front seats, and a 12-way power front seats are all standard.
Bi-directional charging is now available through a home-mounted inverter sold by GM Energy, which allows the Hummer EV SUV to power an entire home. A new Coastal Dune paint colour and two interior colour themes, Granite Drift and Stealth Eclipse, are available.
At the time of writing, MSRPs start at $134,842 for the 2X and $147,842 for the 3X, including the $2,800 destination charge but excluding the federal luxury tax, which applies on the portion of the purchase price above $100,000. Prices are identical to the Hummer EV Pickup’s. Average list prices on CarGurus.ca for 2024 and 2025 model years of the Hummer EV SUV were just under $100,000 at the time of writing.
