Reviews Summary

In terms of buzz, Ford's sporty all-electric crossover has come a long way since it first sparked outrage for appropriating the famous Mustang name. It seems most have accepted or resigned themselves to an electric Mustang, and the conversation these days seems to be all about how much owners love it — and how much Ford continues to improve it. It got Ford's BlueCruise hands-free highway driving technology for 2023. For 2024, Ford raises the bar with a new Rally trim while also giving the rest of the lineup some key upgrades.

Verdict: Thanks to Ford's continued attention, the Mustang Mach-E is a better value proposition than ever. Best of all, the automaker has plans to look after owners of 2023 and older models as well.

Reviews Summary

After a shortened 2023 introduction, the 2024 Lyriq is the first full model year of Cadillac's midsize electric SUV. The Lyriq is the luxury version of the GM Ultium EV platform used in other EV SUVs, including the Chevrolet Blazer EV, Honda Prologue, and Acura ZDX. With ample power, up to 505 kilometres of range, and a properly upscale interior that finally looks different than a Chevy, the Lyriq is a good contender if you're shopping for a higher-priced, two-row electric SUV. We tested a fully loaded Lyriq Sport 3, which is priced in Canada at $90,023 including a $2,300 destination charge and other fees.

Verdict: As an EV, the Lyriq is average. As a Cadillac, it’s much better than anything else in the showroom. Traditional brand hallmarks, such as a cavernous back seat and a gentle ride, blend with big screens and significantly improved material quality. But it's still not up to the luxury standard that Cadillac promises.

2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E

9/10

2024 Cadillac LYRIQ

9/10

The 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ was a striking vehicle with a design that commanded attention. Its exterior styling was reminiscent of a long sedan, despite being an SUV, with a long hood and low ground clearance. The vertical light bars and LED headlights added a modern touch, while the grille and lighting effects enhanced its unique style. The interior was crafted with attention to detail, featuring leather-wrapped seats, polished controls, and a sweeping 33-inch OLED display. However, the floating centre console was a design misstep, offering little functionality.

In contrast, the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E maintained its distinctive and sharp styling, with an aggressive front fascia and signature tri-bar tail lights. The new Rally trim introduced unique styling cues, including Oxford White 19-inch wheels and a black roof. The interior was familiar yet functional, with a minimalist dash and a large touchscreen. The Ford Performance front seats added a sporty touch, and the overall design was cohesive and well-executed, appealing to those seeking a modern and sporty aesthetic.

2024 Cadillac LYRIQ

8/10

The 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ offered a calm and poised driving experience, excelling on highways with its smooth ride. It featured two Chinese-sourced motors producing 500 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque for AWD, while the standard setup was a single rear motor with 340 hp. The 102-kWh battery pack provided a claimed range of 505 km with RWD and 494 km with AWD, though real-world conditions showed closer to 420 km. Charging was efficient, with the battery reaching 80% in about 30 to 35 minutes. However, the LYRIQ's handling was hindered by its weight, affecting steering feel and cornering ability.

The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E, particularly in the GT trim, delivered a sporty driving experience with its firm ride and tight steering. The GT Performance Upgrade package increased torque to 700 lb-ft, achieving a 0-96 km/h time of 3.3 seconds. The Mach-E's range varied by trim, with the Premium trim offering up to 515 km. Charging was improved, with the standard-range battery reaching 80% in 32 minutes. The Mach-E's handling was enhanced by features like the MagneRide suspension and Brembo brakes, providing a dynamic and engaging drive.

Form and function

2024 Cadillac LYRIQ

9/10

The 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ faced challenges with build quality and functionality. Misaligned rear fenders and a problematic charging port were notable issues. The interior offered generous headroom and legroom, but cargo space was limited, with 793 litres behind the seats and 1,722 litres when folded. The floating console and small centre cubby detracted from usability, and accessing certain features required navigating multiple menus.

The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E excelled in interior space, offering 965 litres of cargo space, including a drainable frunk. The cabin was spacious, with ample headroom and legroom for both front and rear passengers. The driver and front passenger enjoyed power-adjustable seats, and the ActiveX seating surfaces provided a comfortable experience. The Mach-E's interior was well-designed, balancing functionality and style.

The 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ featured a 33-inch OLED screen with three sections, offering touch-enabled controls and a large, legible instrument cluster. The infotainment system ran Google Maps and Google Assistant, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. The Super Cruise system provided excellent hands-free driving capabilities, and the 19-speaker AKG stereo delivered impressive sound quality.

The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E came with the latest SYNC 4A infotainment software, displayed on a 15.5-inch touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard, and the Intelligent Range system provided real-time range updates. The Mach-E's infotainment system was user-friendly, though improvements in user experience were needed for screen-based controls.

8/10

The 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ included standard safety features like forward automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and blind-spot monitoring. However, it received a poor rating for its headlights from the IIHS and had not been crash-tested by the NHTSA.

The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E offered BlueCruise 1.3, a hands-free highway-driving assist system, and the Ford CoPilot 360 suite of driver-assistance technologies. It earned a Top Safety Pick Award from the IIHS and received five-star ratings in side crash and rollover testing from the NHTSA.
